There
are 20 thousand or more orphaned children living on the
streets in Romania as young as 8 years old. Many of these
street children will die of disease, hunger or exposure
to the harsh Romanian winter. When a child reaches 18 years
of age in Romania, they are obligated to leave the orphanage
even though they have no place to go to. Some drag their
little brother or sister with them from the orphange and
will start life on the streets, in sewer canals, train stations
and park areas near Cluj Napoca, Turda and many other places
in the Country.
They
are scarred, confused and have no one to even change words
with. They are without any help .. they are not loved, missed
or even noticed by anyone. People pass by them and look
in the other direction. The majority of people in this country
are very poor themselves. These children and teenagers have
no home, no shower to take, no table to eat at, and no clean
clothes...they wear the same dirty clothes over and over.
Operation
Help the Children hands out food, clothing, warm blankets,
soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, medicine and many other
necessities to these unfortunate children. But our future
goal is to build a sanctuary for these children and teenagers
- a real home where they can have beds of their own, an
education and a better life.
